Week 1 Term 3

Welcome back to another term!  I hope everyone had a wonderful time over the holidays. It is great to see so many smiling faces flood into school this morning. Everyone looked relaxed and happy to be back and ready to take on the challenges of another term.

Here is an outline of the plan for term 3.

Talking and Listening

We will continue with our news talks starting week 2 for talking and listening this term.

Literacy Groups

Literacy groups is on Monday to Thursday mornings from 9.00 to 10:45am. During literacy groups we have a strong focus on reading strategies and comprehension (Recount and recall key ideas in texts).

Guided writing sessions during literacy group time will have a focus on sentence structure, letter formation, punctuation and structure of different writing genres.

Students will also continue letter blends and diagraph activities.

Jolly phonics/ grammar

We will continue learning letter sounds and digraphs such as ie, ew, ai and ow.

This term for Jolly Grammar we will be focusing on parts of speech: nouns (proper/common), when to use ‘a’ or ‘an’, plurals -s and –es, personal pronouns, verbs (simple tenses; past, present, future), adjectives, adverbs and punctuation (speech marks). We will continue focussing on spelling rules, including defining aspects such as the short and long vowels.

Writing

This term we will have a strong focus on the structure of procedure texts as well as building on sentence structure, letter formation and punctuation.

Maths Groups

At the start of the term we will be learning about time as well as continuing to build on number skills, addition and subtraction.

Later in the term, students will be learning how to collect and present data, probability and money.

Inquiry

This term, we will start a new unit of inquiry, inquiring into feelings and the ways feelings can be expressed. Later in the term, we will be inquiring into materials and their properties.

Christian Studies

Students will be listening to Bible stories about how Christians can trust in God and have faith in him. We will be looking at how Christians express their faith.
