Home Inquiry (Sharing) – Starting week 2, students measure items in their home and share with the class what they measured and how long the items are. We use non-standard units when measuring. For example – we use blocks, paper clips, cotton buds or pop sticks as measurement tools.

 

Assembly – Classes sharing this week will be 1L/4P/56D.  Assembly is held in the Worship Centre at 2:30 on Monday.  All welcome.

Skoolbag App – Skoolbag has not being utilized to its full potential over the past year, due to it not being compatible with our new website.  Therefore, the school has decided to withdraw its subscription.  Please note that all change of details (such as address or phone number etc) and/or absenteeism’s should be made through Edumate (via the Parent Portal on the school website), or by notifying the front office via phone, email or in person.  It is recommend the App be deleted from all devices. Thank you for understanding.

This term we are celebrating Book Week with a whole school Dress Up Day.  This will take place on Tuesday 21st August.  The theme is “Find Your Treasure”. The children can come dressed as a pirate (no swords please), but treasure doesn’t need to be pirate related, there’s also Indiana Jones, Aladdin and Egyptian themes, the options are endless!

P & F Beer and Wine Tasting Experience.  Saturday August 18 at 7:00pm.  Tickets are $10 and can be purchased using the Qkr! app or pay at the front office. Come along and try some international beer and wine and hear from a winemaker. Nibbles are provided and paella available to buy. There is an option to purchase drinks after tasting. Family and friends are welcome too.  More information can be found on the school website.

Assembly – There will be no assembly week 4. The Endeavour College band will be performing from 2:20pm. All welcome.
School/Sport photos – Any student that has participated in SAPSASA sport or any school sport team ie cricket, basketball etc. will be having their photo taken the same day as school photos (Tuesday August 14). This will require students to be dressed in their formal uniform.

Readers – It has been great to see students are excited about their reading and are being very responsible in changing them each day. Just a reminder the reader room is open from 8.35 – 8.50am. Parent Helpers- The year 1 classes continue to need parent helpers to help test students on their Jolly words and sight words. Please let the class teacher know if you can help out. Any help would be great!

Writing- Procedure – How to make chocolate crackles
Word play- Practise recognising and writing oi/ oy words
Grammar – compound words / verbs/ adverbs / Connectives (and, so, because)
Maths Focus:
Number, problem solving, partitioning, skip counting
Shapes – Investigate the properties of 2D and 3D shapes
Christian Studies: Christians believe God loves and provides in many ways
LOI 1: Christian Beliefs
LOI 2: Who is God?
LOI 3: What God gives people?
Students will be investigating who God is, what God gives us, and sharing their knowledge with their peers.
Unit of Inquiry: How we express ourselves
Central Idea: storytelling is an art form used to inform and teach people.
LOI 1: The different ways people tell stories
LOI 2: Stories inform us
LOI 3: Creating and reflecting on stories
Students will be exploring different ways to tell a story and reflecting on what the story is telling us.

Save the date: The year 1 classes will have their ‘celebration of learning’ on Thursday the 20th of September starting at 5pm until 6pm. Each student is expected to arrive at 4.45 pm to ensure the night starts on time. Students are to be dropped off at the Japanese room. You can access this room via the side entrance of the worship center. Students will be displaying/ sharing their learning from our current unit of Inquiry – How we express ourselves. Students will have an opportunity to share a story through their chosen art form. Parents will be able to walk around and look at students presentations and ask them questions. A schedule of the night will be sent out over the next few weeks.

Year 1 Sleepover- It is time for our Year 1’s to get really excited! The Year 1 sleepover is on Friday the 19th of October wk 1 term 4. It is a normal school day and children will go home or to GGOSH as usual at 3:07 pm. Year 1’s will need to return in casual clothes refreshed and ready for action at 4.30 pm. Please be advised students that are booked into GGOSH can be picked up by a staff member with parental permission. Notes and more information about the sleepover will be sent out in week 9. If you would like to volunteer to stay the night please let the year 1 teachers know. Parents who attend will be delegated jobs for the evening and in the morning.

Canteen update – From this Friday (31st August) the canteen will no longer serve recess. The canteen have no other option as they are inundated with orders and not enough volunteers. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Golden Grove Lutheran Church (GGLC) playgroup – is run each Friday of the school term by ChildSafe volunteers of GGLC and is open to all within our church, school and wider community.

Playgroup begins at 9:30am with mainly music, followed by a fruit snack and playtime. Gold coin donation.
