Welcome Back! – It has been wonderful to see the students make a great start to term 2. We look forward to an exciting term of learning with the students.

Monday Assembly at 2.30pm – You are welcome to come along to Monday Assembly each week and see what is happening around the school. As a celebration of achievement or attitude, children are presented with awards each week at Assembly. When your child receives an award we will let you know and you are welcome to come along. This week the Year 1G class will be sharing at Assembly. Year 2/3W and 5/6Z will also be sharing.

Golden Grove Lutheran Church (GGLC) playgroup – Playgroup is run each Friday of the school term by ChildSafe volunteers of GGLC and is open to all within our church, school and wider community.  Playgroup begins at 9:30am with mainly music, followed by a fruit snack and playtime.  Gold coin donation.

Take home bags – Please make sure your child comes to school each day with a take home bag that includes their reading log book, sight words and Jolly words.

 

Readers – It has been great to see students are excited about their reading and are being very responsible in changing them each day. Just a reminder the reader room is open from 8.35 – 8.50am. Please ensure your child is at school on time so they can borrow readers and read in the mornings before 9.00am.

 

Jolly Words – Please check your child’s take home bag each day and practise the Jolly words as often as possible.

 

Sight words – Please practise the words in the ‘words to learn’ bag regularly.

 

News talks/Sharing – Share some facts and an opinion about something you are interested in. Examples include a sport, animal or person. We have been learning how to write information reports. Information reports are full of facts. Students have been learning the difference between facts and opinions.

 

Parent Helpers- The year 1 classes continue to need parent helpers to help test students on their Jolly words and sight words. Please let the class teacher know if you can help out. Any help would be great!

LOI 2: Different ways to interact with others

Students will be exploring how we use body language, facial expressions and voice to communicate with others.

Introducing QKR – Qkr (pronounced ‘quicker’) is available now to download from the APP Store or Google Play.  QKR is an APP designed to let you order and pay for a variety of school items securely, and will include canteen orders (coming soon) and other items.  This alleviates the need to bring correct cash to school and allows you to order at a time and place that suits you.  With QKR, you’ll receive your receipts on the app and have the option to receive them via email.  It’s quick and easy, and once set up takes a short amount of time to make purchase at the click of a button.  Links are provided on the website to help you get started.

Year 1 Excursion to Uleybury School Museum – Both Year 1 classes will be visiting the Uleybury School Museum on
Thursday 24th May. Please refer to the email sent home for details of the day and send back consent forms ASAP.

Neuro Ed – Please note that 1L will be participating in a Neuro Education lesson (learning to ‘Be the boss of your brain’)
run by Jody Kriewaldt on Monday afternoon during Assembly and therefore will not be attending Assembly in week 4. 1G
will be participating in the same lesson on Friday afternoon in week 4.

School Uniform: Please note that there is a letter attached concerning the school uniform. Thanks.

Ultimate School Disco – This Friday night. We are certainly looking forward to a great night!! Access to the disco will
be through the GGOSH gate entrance and then in through the ‘Fellowship Centre’. GGOSH users please note that you
will need to sign your children out of GGOSH and then sign in for the disco (GGOSH staff will not be able to do that for
you).

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORY TIME – This will take place in the Worship Centre on Wednesday 23rd May
straight after recess. The book this year is called “Hickory Dickory Dash” by Tony Wilson.

BOOK FAIR – Our annual book fair is on again this month. Brochures are going home this Thursday (17th May). The
fair will be open for sales from Tuesday 29th May through to Monday 4th June.
