English is the main means by which we daily communicate with others. The English learning area is central to all learning. Development of language is achieved through purposeful and contextual learning experiences, involving critical and creative thinking, listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing and presenting.
Mathematics is an active and engaging process. Students learn fundamental mathematical skills, knowledge and develop critical thinking and problem solving. The mathematics curriculum is structured around experiences in number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability.
Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
HASS encourages students to develop a local, national and international perspective and a commitment to lifelong learning. Historical, geographical, civic and citizenship and economics and business knowledge and understanding are developed across the program. Research and other relevant skills are fostered in meaningful contexts.
The Arts entertain, challenge, provoke responses and enrich our knowledge of self, communities, world cultures and histories. The Arts promote imagination, communication, creativity, social development and original thinking. Performing Arts and Media Arts are taught within the Units of Inquiry by classroom teachers. Visual Arts is offered through our specialist programme.
Technologies provide the opportunity for students to work with traditional, contemporary and emerging technologies that enrich and impact the global world. Through technologies student learning is enhanced through the application of knowledge, practical skills and process. Students create innovative solutions, independently and collaboratively, they develop knowledge, understanding and skills to respond creatively to current and future needs.
Health and Physical Education (HPE)
Health and Physical Education focuses on individual’s well-being for today and in the future. It provides ongoing, developmentally appropriate and explicit learning of transferrable skills promoting physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. Health and Physical Education is taught within the Units of Inquiry by classroom teachers. Students also participate in Physical Education lessons through our specialist programme.
Science and its applications are part of everyday life. The emphasis is on learning through doing, with the aim of stimulating and developing natural curiosity. Assisting students to make sense of our world through exploring the unknown, investigating universal mysteries, making predictions and solving problems. Science understandings are developed within the programme of inquiry.
Languages are designed to enable all students to engage in learning a language in addition to English. At GGLPS students learn to communicate effectively in the Japanese language and further develop their skills and understanding of English. Learning content includes cultural aspects as well as written, oral and visual language. Japanese is offered through our specialist programme.
